Shirley MacLaine has long fascinated me. I’ve enjoyed the books of hers that I’ve read so far and I may eventually read all of them. The ones I have already read have definitely kept me motivated to find and carve out those hard-to-find reading moments in the midst of our busy lives. They also make me think about “stuff” long after I actually read it. I like that — even when it’s a painful personal truth or lesson I need to face and accept once and for all.
So whether you agree or not with some of her wide-ranging beliefs or political views, I strongly recommend you check out some of Shirley MacLaine’s books. They are thought-provoking, rich with history, forthright and often funny reading material. And — for a glimpse the snippet below is from Shirley MacLaine’s website and her book, “What If…” with the first quote below being among my favorite:
What if our friends are our best teachers because there is only sharing without expectation of anything in return?
What if our political leaders actually led?
What if families are a form of government we either tolerate or revolt from?
What if each of us could remember our untapped origins in the cosmos?
What if a frog had wings? (Answer: He wouldn’t bump his ass so much.)
What if all that we are is a result of what we have thought?
What if monogamy went out of style? (Answer: Show business would be in trouble.)
What if sex is a chemistry experiment?
What if we were as aware of our spiritual nutrition as our physical nutrition?
